Résumé: Toute la ville d’Abilene fête l’arrivée du chemin de fer. Si Windy Miller laisse croire qu’il y a fortement contribué pour le bien de la communauté, il poursuit surtout un objectif personnel : s’enrichir, quitte à écraser ceux qui constituent un obstacle. Ainsi force-t-il la main à des éleveurs texans pour acheter leur bétail à très bas prix et à le convoyer par ses propres moyens. Nouveaux en ville, Dan Thomas et Tod Ramsey, d’anciens soldats confédérés, compromettent ses plans…

Avis : Le premier western de Glenn Ford n'est pas très réussi. Il reste très mineur dans la carrière de l'acteur.
Il est à noter que ce western est le premier d'une série de sept films réalisé par George Marshall et avec Glenn Ford qui se terminera en 1964 avec Le Bataillon des lâches (Advance to reard).
