Avis : Face au châtiment est le deuxième western de Gordon Douglas. Ce western n'est pas son meilleur et ne rivalise pas avec les films qu'il fit à la Warner tels que La maîtresse de fer ou la trilogie qu'il fit avec Clint Walker (Fort Dobbs ou Le trésor des 7 collines). Douglas redirigera Scott dans The Nevadan en 1950 où George McReady sera à nouveau face à Randy.

Randolph Scott est toujours convainquant et cette fois en bandit (Bill Doolin). Ironiquement, il combattait ce personnage interprété par Robert Armstrong dans Far West 89 (Return of the Bad Men).
Les seconds rôles sont soignés avec George Macready en marshal et John Ireland compagnon de Scott. En arrière plan, on remarque Jock Mahoney.
Un bon western avec de l'action bien gérée pour de la série B.
